Doctor Giancarlo Jose Contreras Salgado was born on June 25th, 1977 in the city of Barranquilla, Colombia. In 1994 he graduated from high school in Riverside Military Academy located in Gainesville, Georgia, United States. In 1995 he began his studies in the medical field, graduating as a medical doctor M.D. from one of the most prestigious universities in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, “Instituto Tecnologico de Santo Domingo”.
Later on 2009, he obtained his degree in General Surgery at Dr. Salvador B. Gautier Hospital, the
most important medical institution of the dominican social security, with the academic certification of the first university founded of the americas, “Universidad Autonoma de Santo Domingo”. In 2014, he performs his training in cholecystectomy laparoscopic surgery at the CES Clinic/CES University in Medellín, Colombia.
In the beginning of 2015 he finishes his training and certification in Bariatric an Metabolic surgery at Angeles Tijuana Hospital located in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, certified by the Mexican College of Surgeons. Dr. Giancarlo Contreras has also participated in multiple seminars and conferences in the management of obesity in Mexico, Colombia and the Dominican Republic. He has also worked as profesor of General and Laparoscopic Surgery at “Universidad Iberoamericana” both spanish and english programs, and has participated a a volunteer in “Operation Smile Santo Domingo”, which is a program directed in helping children with cleft lip and palate deformities.
Dr. Giancarlo Contreras is an active member of the Dominican Medical College, Dominican College of Surgeons, Dr. Chanlatte Baik(eminent dominican surgeon) Society of Surgeons, and The Dominican Association for the study of Obesity.
